Study Reveals Dementia in Working Age Adults Connected to Traumatic Brain Injury

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) has been associated with an increased risk of dementia in working-age adults, according to a recent study. The same study, which embodied the entire Finnish population, showed no relationship between TBI and later onset of Parkinson’s disease or ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Researchers from the University of Helsinki and the Helsinki University Hospital, who conducted the study, believe that these results may be of great benefit in the rehabilitation and long-term monitoring of TBI victims. Approximately one in three that receive a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury die and half of those that survive suffer a life-long disability. These grim statistics [...]

The exposure to asbestos in large amounts, or over an extended period of time, is the sole recognized cause of pleural mesothelioma. The tissue cells become damaged and scarred by the fibers of asbestos leading to the production of cancerous cells. These cells divide rapidly, [...]

Federal Regulators Shelve Plans to Mandate Anti-Lock Brakes on Motorcycles

Traffic fatalities are rising again, following a long downward curve, driven in part by a high number of motorcycle deaths. Even though over 5000 bikers are dying on the nation’s roads annually, federal regulators have taken an ambiguous position requiring a safety measure that could save hundreds of lives annually. Since the 1990’s anti-lock braking systems (ABS) have been a standard feature on most passenger vehicles. For years, the same technology has been shown to be a valuable method of preventing motorcycle deaths. ABS technology works by preventing the wheels from locking up during hard braking or slippery braking conditions, permitting better control of the bike. [...]
