An unfortunate wreck in the Los Angeles area claimed the life of a 21-year-old man and left another man with serious injuries. The crash involved just one vehicle, as it plowed into a tree in Anaheim. The police have launched an investigation into the car accident and though few details are being released, the police do have a few suspicions about what caused the wreck.
Investigators believe that the driver was intoxicated in some way when he chose to get behind the wheel, and they also believe that the man was speeding prior to the crash. The driver survived, but his 21-year-old passenger did not. If true, this driver could face a bevy of criminal and DUI-related charges, such as DUI vehicular manslaughter.
While this is just a single vehicle accident and though it is tragic that a man lost his life as a result, there are a couple of things to learn from this wreck. The first, and most obvious, is that driving drunk is simply a stupid thing to do. It makes you a less capable driver; it can make you liable for any accident you may cause or be involved in; and, ultimately, it’s just a reckless and negligent act. No one should do it.
But, people still do, and that brings us to the second point: filing a lawsuit against a drunk driver. Civil cases in this regard would seem to be open and shut, but you still want to wait for the investigation to conclude and for all of the blood and toxicology tests to come back conclusively. These pieces of evidence can substantiate your claims in civil court.
