What are My Rights in a California Limousine Accident?

When the news carries a story of a California limousine accident, it invokes an image of people having the time of their life, suddenly ruined by tragedy. It may be a wedding, a night on the town, a trip to wine country or a ride to the airport for a long awaited vacation. Such was the case in Santa Clarita on August 1, 2015. A limousine carrying ten people, including the driver, crashed into a car that was stopped in the road. The excessive weight of the limousine made it impossible for the driver to stop in time. The vehicle that was stopped went out of [...]

Many Parents Lack Concussion Awareness Study Shows

Many parents and guardians of young athletes do not thoroughly understand the impact of concussions on their child’s future. This information is according to a study co-authored by a faculty member of the University of Texas at Arlington’s College of Nursing and Health Innovation, and a Stanford faculty member. The study by Cynthia Trowbridge, an associate professor of kinesiology and athletic trainer at UTA, and Sheetal Patel of Stanford University, was published in May in the Journal of Applied Behavioral Research. The results showed that a significant number of caregivers have limited awareness of the long term affects of a concussion on a child. Trowbridge, who [...]

How Safe are Amusement Park and Carnival Rides?

The frequency of amusement park and carnival ride accidents reported on the news is alarming. The most recent was the tragic death of a young man on the Fireball ride in Ohio who was thrown into the air and landing on the pavement fifty feet away. Seven others were injured in that accident. In June of this year, a girl fell 25 feet from a gondola ride in New York’s Great Adventure. In May, a 10 year old was tossed of a giant waterslide in a brand new California water park. Fortunately neither of them was seriously injured. Sadly, others have not been so lucky. Caleb [...]

Why Should I Wear My Seatbelt in an Uber or Lyft?

Ride share companies utilize smartphone technology to provide an alternative to taxi cabs and other forms of public transportation. The ride share company can keep its operating costs low because they are not regulated by states and cities and are not required to carry the same type of insurance as cabs or to purchase expensive medallions. Statistics from the National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that only 65% of passengers buckle up in taxis compared to 87% in private vehicles. The apparent reason for failure to buckle up is the fact that most pubic transit lacks seatbelts and riders are not accustomed to doing it. California [...]

Study Reveals Dementia in Working Age Adults Connected to Traumatic Brain Injury

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) has been associated with an increased risk of dementia in working-age adults, according to a recent study. The same study, which embodied the entire Finnish population, showed no relationship between TBI and later onset of Parkinson’s disease or ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Researchers from the University of Helsinki and the Helsinki University Hospital, who conducted the study, believe that these results may be of great benefit in the rehabilitation and long-term monitoring of TBI victims. Approximately one in three that receive a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury die and half of those that survive suffer a life-long disability. These grim statistics [...]
