Burn Injuries Bring $1.3 Million Settlement in Warehouse Blast

A New Jersey electrical contractor has agreed to a $1.3 million settlement for burn injuries received in a warehouse explosion, as reported in the New Jersey Law Journal. According to the suit, Michael Young, of Bayville who was 50 at the time, needed to be airlifted to St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, suffering from third-degree burns encompassing 36 percent of his body, including his arms, legs, hands, face, neck and back. How Safe are Amusement Park and Carnival Rides?

The frequency of amusement park and carnival ride accidents reported on the news is alarming. The most recent was the tragic death of a young man on the Fireball ride in Ohio who was thrown into the air and landing on the pavement fifty feet away. Seven others were injured in that accident. Fatigue Added to List of Occupational Safety Risks by the National Safety Council

Fatigue has such a significant impact on workplace safety that the National Safety Council (NSC) has added it to it’s new list of occupational injury risks. This is the first time that worker fatigue has been included in this list. Electric Shock Drowning – A Silent Killer

Two Alabama women, 34-year-old Shelly Darling and 41-year-old Elizabeth Whipple went missing after sunbathing on Lake Tuscaloosa on April 16. Their bodies were recovered from the lake the following morning. According to preliminary autopsies the cause of death was determined to be electrocution. One year ago the fatal electrocution drowning of 15 year-old Carmen Johnson, also of Alabama, made national headlines. Pedestrian Deaths Rise Sharply – Is Distraction the Cause?

Pedestrian traffic fatalities reached the highest total in more than two decades, according to recent data. A total of nearly 6000 people were killed, reaching the projected rise of 11% for 2016.
